Last year most of the crops in Ndegeya were lost due to draught. Also at the moment the country is waiting for the rains which would normally have started already. The soil has been tilled and the seeds have been planted. Without rain in the next two weeks all the work has to be done again and new seeds will be needed. The church of Bredevoort have let us know that they will sponsor two waterpumps for the Ndegeya community which consists of 7 hamlets. We discussed the installation of the waterpumps with Bakka Godfrey who is the contractor who will realise the pumps for us. Together with Apollo, he came up with a good plan to give the community a feeling of ownership. This will guarantee that the pumps will be in good working order in the years to come. The waterproject started on Saturday and Sunday we visited the project and we were impressed by the work already done.

Digging started on Saturday and on Tuesday the well was almost completed.

The concrete needed to harden for a few days and on Monday the final piece of the waterpump was installed. We are very pleased with the speed inwhich the complete well was installed and also about the cost. This kind of well is called a handdug shallow well and they are less expensive than bore holes.

Thanks to recent donations the Joanne Foundation has enough money to have three waterpumps installed in the Ndegeya district and if we succeed in finding another € 6000 we will be able to provide the whole of the community with sufficient clean water.
